Bay Marine Works  operates to recognised New Zealand and international standards across commercial diving, marine construction, vessel operations, salvage, and environmental response. Our qualifications and certifications ensure that all work is carried out safely, professionally, and in full compliance with maritime and council requirements.

Commercial Diving Certifications

ADAS (Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme)

Our commercial divers are certified to ADAS standards, which are internationally recognised for professional diving.

Typical certifications held by our team include:

  • ADAS Level 3 – Occupational Diver
    Qualified for construction diving, inspections, underwater cutting and welding, structural surveys, and complex marine operations.
  • ADAS Level 2 – Restricted Surface Supplied
    Approved for underwater maintenance, hull cleaning, underwater photography, inspections, and basic construction support.
  • First Aid, CPR and O2 certifications (kept current)

Marine Operations & Vessel Qualifications

Our team members hold the appropriate maritime qualifications for operating workboats, tugs, and barges in Tauranga Harbour and around New Zealand.

Common certifications held include:

  • Maritime NZ Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL)
    For commercial vessel operation in restricted coastal waters.
  • Maritime NZ Commercial Inshore qualifications
    Allowing the safe movement of barges, towing vessels, dive tenders, and support boats.
  • Maritime radio operator certifications
  • Workboat and barge operation competency
    (Verified through training, logbooks, and experience)

All vessels are operated in accordance with Maritime NZ rules and harbour authority requirements.

Lifting, Rigging & Construction Certifications

Bay Marine Works crews working on jetties, piles, moorings, and salvage operations hold:

  • Certified slinging and lifting training
  • Rigging and load control competency
  • Crane operation and lifting appliance training (role-dependent)
  • Working at heights certification
  • Confined space certification (where relevant)

Our equipment, lifting gear, chains, shackles, and mooring hardware are tested and maintained to approved standards.

Health, Safety & Environmental Certifications

To ensure safe marine operations, members of the team hold:

  • Site Safe passports
  • First Aid (Comprehensive)
  • Hazardous substances handling certification (HSNO)
  • Oil spill response training
  • Emergency response and rescue training

The company maintains a documented Health and Safety Management System that aligns with the:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
  • WorkSafe NZ guidelines
  • Maritime NZ rules
  • Regional council environmental standards

Approved Inspector Status

Bay Marine Works is an approved inspector for:

    – mooring inspections
    – mooring installation and servicing
    – hazard and debris removal
    – environmental response work
  • Waikato Regional Council
    – mooring inspections and installation
    – marine contracting services
    – emergency response work
